Turkish Angora
A graceful Turkish-associated longhair with a fine flowing coat, high-set ears and a plumed tail.
Appearance & size
Large upright ears and almond-shaped eyes contribute to the alert outline. Its refinement differs from the more substantial Turkish Van.
Coat
The fine single coat follows the body and forms a rich tail plume rather than a heavy undercoated mass. A generic historical use of Angora for longhaired cats should not identify every modern longhair as this breed.
Typical behavior
Many individuals are intelligent, engaged and socially interested cats, while acknowledging individual variation.
Activity
Provide interactive toys, climbing and safe observation opportunities. A refined body can still be agile and curious, so enrich the environment rather than treating the long coat as its only defining feature.
Care
Periodic combing maintains the fine single coat. Adjust attention to the individual’s age, texture and loose hair.

Turkish Van
A substantial semilonghaired breed best known for a mainly white coat with color concentrated on the head and tail. Van pattern also occurs in other breeds, so the pattern itself does not identify a pedigree Turkish Van.
Appearance & size
The body is large, strong and muscular, with a broad moderate-wedge head and prominent ears. Eyes may be matching or different colors.
Coat
The soft semilong coat has little undercoat and changes markedly with season. The familiar colored head and tail contrast with a predominantly white body, sometimes with additional markings.
Typical behavior
Loyal, intelligent and playful cats, some with strong preferences about being held or carried.
Activity
Interactive hunting games, sturdy climbing options and safe exploration suit the described strength and curiosity. Supervise any interest in water and never place a reluctant cat in it to demonstrate a breed stereotype.
Care
For everyday care, consider combing to remove loose hair, with more attention possible in the heavier winter coat. Minimal undercoat can simplify maintenance, but season and individual texture still matter.

Affenpinscher
A compact German toy dog with a rough coat, a distinctive monkey-like face and an alert companion temperament. Its small stature sits alongside a history of practical farm work rather than purely decorative breeding.
Appearance & size
Look for a sturdy, nearly square outline rather than a fragile or elongated body. A short, straight back and shaggy facial furnishings help create the breed's characteristic expression.
Coat
The coat is rough and shaggy, with the face contributing much of the breed's distinctive appearance.
Activity
Small size does not remove the need for activity. Safe play and attention to encounters with larger dogs matter particularly for a small companion with a confident manner.
Care
Regular brushing and occasional tidying around the feet and eyes maintain the rough coat. Keep hair clear of movement and vision.

Afghan Hound
A long-legged sighthound with a flowing coat and an independent manner. Behind the show-ring outline is a hunting dog developed to travel quickly over demanding terrain and locate game by sight.
Appearance & size
A long head, long neck, deep body and substantial legs combine in an outline intended to express both speed and strength. The tail has a distinctive ring at its end.
Coat
Long, fine hair covers much of the body and legs, with a silky topknot and well-coated ears. The face is short-haired, and adult dogs have a naturally shorter saddle area along the back.
Typical behavior
An Afghan Hound's response to training may differ from that of a dog bred to work closely under frequent instructions; individual learning and motivation still vary.
Activity
Allow for substantial activity, mental engagement and secure fencing. Lure coursing or agility can provide structured outlets for a suitably prepared individual.
Care
A long coat requires regular brushing to prevent mats, with bathing and drying forming a significant part of upkeep. Choose a manageable routine rather than assuming the show-ring presentation is effortless.

American Hairless Terrier
The American Hairless Terrier is a relatively small American terrier whose unusual coat history began within the Rat Terrier population. Its hairless form combines an athletic body with exposed skin.
